Roman Colosseum : Rome, Italy

August 12th, 2010

I got this shot in Rome smack dab in the middle of the Roman Colosseum. It was a near spiritual experience walking through this enthralling piece of architecture. Everyone who entered it had an unspoken respect for it, to the point where it was so silent that if you listed closely enough you could almost still hear the jeers of the crowd and the clashing of swords on shields. I was also lucky enough to visit during Spring time in Europe, so there was the added stimulation of the scent and sight of tree blossoms blowing through the air. It was a magical experience and one that anyone who visits Rome should not miss.

Sydney Aquarium : Australia

August 8th, 2010

I got this shot  of a reef shark at the most impressive Aquarium I am have ever been too, the Sydney Aquarium in Australia. I am fascinated with both Sharks and the coral reef environments, so this Aquarium was right up my alley. I was lucky enough to be PADI certified while diving in the Great Barrier Reef, so after my diving excursion I had to stop in at the Aquarium. I decided to do a impromptu photo shoot there capturing all kinds of beautiful life in aciton. At the end of the exhibit there is a impressively huge tank with an expanse of glass at least 30 feet wide. There is a type of stadium seating accompanied by gently piped symphonic music, the fish, sharks and other ocean wildlife almost seemed to waltz tot he music. I got this shot while taking it all in, magnificent experience and surely worth the time to stop in (more then once) while in Sydney.

Daintree Rainforest : Australia

August 3rd, 2010

Got this shot while of one of the many butterfly species while walking through the Butterfly Conservatory in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest in NE Australia. This was one of the greatest concentrations of butterflies I had ever seen. It was also an educational experience with guides who would discuss patterns and the process of development of butterflies through the cycle of their lives. From the knowledge gained, to the experience of butterflies interacting with everyone in the enclosed area, this was a highlight for me in that region.

St. Vitus Cathedral : Prague, Czech Republic

July 29th, 2010

Got this shot while walking through the St. Vitus Catherdral within the confines of Prague Castle in the Czech Republic. I have a particular affinity for religious themed stained glass and the mix of technical and artistic expression that delivers a message through the use of light/color. Someday I plan to do a tour of the worlds largest churches and complete an exhibit on stained glass and religious inspired art. Anyone who has attempted stained glass can appreciate the skill and time something like this piece would take. It was absolutely awe inspiring to stand before this piece – its’ size alone inspired the phrase ” dust in the wind.”

Royal Library : Copenhagen, Denmark

July 23rd, 2010

Got this shot touring the Royal Library or the “Black Diamond” while living in Copenhagen, Denmark. The architecture, both on the exterior and interior, is very progressive. I particularly admired the manner in which the building “plays with light” and took many photos of it’s interaction with space. It is especially stunning during the winter months as it appears to be a black monolith shooting out of the white snow. It is definitely worth checking out if you are in Northern Europe and enjoy architecture.

Great Barrier Reef : Australia

July 4th, 2010

This shot was taken during my live aboard trip out in the Australian Barrier Reef. This was the boat where I along with 20 or so other folks got a chance to explore many different parts of the reef. I was seeking my PADI certification (and got it) and figured while I was in Australia, why not do it in one of the most beautiful dive spots in the world? Had a wonderful time on the journey and managed 5 dives in 4 days including an amazing night dive where for the first time in my life, I felt the primal response to not be on the top of the food chain. Was a wonderful experience!

Astronomical Clock : Prague, Czech Republic

July 1st, 2010

This shot was taken at the base of the Astronomical Clock in Prague of the Czech Republic. The clock is “animated” in that at certain times it has moving parts that consist of characters that dance around and about the face of the clock. It is quite the sight to see, given the large scale of the clock as well as the interesting shapes and colors that make up it’s design. Prague is an amazing city with a diverse mix of architecture ranging from its small shops to large cathedrals and castles. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, where my time was spent wandering the streets and alleys and time around the Charles Bridge area as well.

Coastal : Northern California

June 27th, 2010

This was taken at a local Northern California beach on an important day for me personally. As you can see from the image, the beach seemed to almost “belong” to me. It was a transitional day for me, one in which I found direction and decided to pursue my photography and art professionally. Every time I look at this image I am transported back to that day and time. The stimulation to all the senses at a Northern California beach are very unique. Hopefully I captured the feeling of that day in the shot as I always focus on accomplishing with my photography.

St. Peter’s Square : Vatican City, Italy

June 24th, 2010

Here is a shot I got in the middle of the St. Peter’s Square on Easter weekend in Rome. Was a crazy weekend in Rome as one could imagine. The energy from the crowd before the Pope came out to address everyone was amazing. Flags waving from countries of all corners of the earth, children cheering, a buzz consisting of thousands of eager souls. Then as soon as the ceremony ended and he came out to speak it got absolutely silent. There was such an overwhelming amount of respect; it was like going 100 mph (before the address) to hitting a brick wall (while he spoke). It is an experience I will never forget.
